Gwynne didn't start writing until his early thirties after his wife and children had encouraged him to do so. He is also fond of training for battle with the spear, sword, and shield on the South Downs. Together with his wife Gwynne runs a small family business in rejuvenating vintage furniture.


He is married with four children and a handful of dogs.

He has played double bass in a rock'n'roll band, packed soap, been a French restaurant waiter, and worked on landscaping and carpentry crews. Gwynne studied and lectured at Brighton University.
